Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College is a Foundation Comprehensive College with 1060+ students on roll including over 160 in Post 16 education.
We serve an area of high social deprivation and the proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals (41 per cent) is well above the national average.
A high proportion of pupils (90+ per cent) are from ethnic minority backgrounds and almost all have English as an additional language at the start of their secondary education. Other than English, the main languages spoken are Urdu, Punjabi, Pushtu and Hindi. Our student body has also been enriched recently by the arrival of a number of students from Eastern Europe.
Here at Laisterdyke, we work closely with the community and are seeking to further enhance those links. We have a Community Development Officer and a Community Enterprise Manager who assist in this purpose.
The major programme of building and redevelopment which has taken place over recent years has improved the entire site and benefited all our students and staff. These include new P.E. changing facilities and re-developed teaching facilities and dining spaces.
Our existing facilities include a purpose-built Post 16 extension and a state of the art Skills Centre which provides facilities for vocational courses, including a Motor Vehicle workshop and Hair and Beauty Salon.
