Health & Social Care

Introduction: Through a combination of practical experience and written assignments, these vocational qualifications provide level 2 learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for a career in the sector. This is a two year course, comprising of the teaching of two units per year group. The units covered are:-

Year   10 Year   11

 

Unit 1 HUMAN LIFESPAN   DEVELOPMENT

Students will explore human growth and development across life stages and investigate   factors that affect human growth and development and how they are   interrelated,

 

Unit 2 HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE VALUES

Students will explore the care values that underpin current practice in health and social care and investigate ways of empowering individuals who use health and   social care services

 

 

Unit 5 PROMOTING HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Students will explore the purpose, types and benefits of health promotion and investigate how health risks can be addressed through health promotion

 

Unit 3 COMMUNICATION

Students will explore skills, factors, barriers that affect communication.

Unit 3 Health, Safety and security

Students will: Explore potential hazards at their placement

Understand the risk assessment process and priorities and responses in dealing with incidents and emergencies.

Develop knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and how is influences policy and practice at their placement

Unit 4 Development Through the

Life Stages

Students will:Know   stages of growth and development throughout the human lifespan

Understand potential effects of life factors and events on the development of the   individual

Understand physical and psychological changes of ageing.

Level 3 Btec

Understand potential effects of life factors and events on the development of the   individual

Understand physical and psychological changes of ageing.

 

Unit 2 Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care

 

Students will: Understand concepts of equality, diversity and rights in relation to   health and social care

Know discriminatory practices in health and social care

Understand how national initiatives promote anti-discriminatory practice Know how anti-discriminatory practice is promoted in health and social care settings.

Unit 21 Nutrition for Health and

Social Care

 

Students will: Understand concepts of nutritional health

Know the characteristics of nutrients

Understand influences on dietary intake and nutritional health

Be able to use dietary and other relevant information from an individual to make   recommendations to improve nutritional health.
