Mosaic Enterprise Challenge

Mosaic Business Enterprise Challenge

Mosaic is a charitable organisation founded by HRH The Prince of Wales. Every year they hold a Business Enterprise Challenge, open to secondary schools nationwide.

The Mosaic Enterprise Challenge, generously supported by the Apax Foundation and Nectar Trust, is designed to develop and encourage entrepreneurial skills.

Teams of students work with a mentor from the business community to learn about becoming future business leaders, play a simulation game, and come up with fantastic business ideas.

The Challenge

The Challenge, involves our students working with mentors on creating and marketing a new product. The Challenge provides our students with a realistic business scenario where students must learn about key business issues such as finance, sales, marketing and production. The aim of the challenge is for students to grasp and understand the concept of business, sustainability and the meaning of an ethical business.

The Challenge, whilst being fun and exciting, provides an excellent way of introducing enterprise to young adults. In addition the Challenge fulfils the requirements of enterprise education within the National Curriculum and is fully in line with the 'National Strategy for Enterprise Education'.

The Mentors

The business mentors who will support students come from a range of businesses and backgrounds. We are very lucky to have three mentors from a local accountancy firm Hentons.

Waseem Khan from Henton's was awarded 'National Mentor of the Year' and will be working closely with our students.

Morrison's supermarket are also mentoring our students and supporting them with their business ideas.

The Competition

Each participating school can enter teams, who then have two weeks to record their highest possible profit. Teams also submit an Ethical Business Strategy to demonstrate their understanding of responsible business practices.

Teams from the top 5 schools in each region (ours is the Yorkshire region) are invited to attend the National Finals event, where they present their business idea in front of an audience of 150 business and other leaders. The winners then go on to compete in the Grand Final with schools from all over the country.

A total of 55 of our Year 10 students will have the opportunity to participate in the Enterprise Challenge.

The Prize

The winner's will receive:

A cheque for £3000 for the school (£500 of which is for the students to invest in their business idea)

A winner's trophy

A winner's medal

The Runners Up receive £2,000 prize money for their school

3rd place receives £1,000 prize money for their school

All finalists receive goodie bags

All students receive certificates
